SALVATION ARMY BRUNSWICK SHELTER FACES POSSIBLE CLOSURE
To keep providing lodging, meals, shelter and assistance to those in need in Brunswick, we need your support now to raise $140,000 by April 30
BRUNSWICK, GA– Since 1924, The Salvation Army of Brunswick has offered hope and security in the face of human despair. Because of your support, this past year 8,333 nights of lodging and 29,094 meals were provided to a total of 300 men, women and children in The Salvation Army Shelter. However, an anonymous major funder of five years recently moved from the area and alerted The Salvation Army that funding would no longer be available. Without additional financial support, the shelter faces closure.
In both Glynn and McIntosh Counties, The Salvation Army is the only organization which provides transitional housing for homeless men and women. The emergency shelter and transitional housing programs provide lodging, meals, personal hygiene items, showers, and casework services to our clients with an in-depth assessment of the circumstances that brought them to us. Caseworkers help individuals and families find both gainful employment and permanent housing with the ultimate goal of self-sufficiency.
Captain Scott Lyles, Salvation Army Corps Administrator, stated, “Many individuals and organizations in the Golden Isles area have depended on us to provide shelter to those in need in our community. Now we are depending on them, asking them to partner with us to raise the funding that will allow us to keep our shelter equipped and open for years to come.” Captain Lyles reflected, “The people in Glynn and McIntosh Counties are Brave, Passionate and Compassionate, and we know they will stand beside The Salvation Army during this difficult time.”
The Corps Community Center, located at 1623 Union Street, will continue “Doing The Most Good” in many ways that address homelessness, poverty, and hunger for those in need of assistance, including rent, utility assistance, food, disaster relief services, character building programs for youth, and worship services.
The Salvation Army is truly grateful for all who have so generously supported our programs which serve the Brunswick community.
