National Salvation Army Week 2009 Celebrated Around USA
May 11 - 17 has been designated as National Salvation Army Week for 2009. During this week, The Salvation Army celebrates the 56th annual recognition week which was first declared by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954, giving United States citizens a formal and public way to honor the work that Salvation Army officers, volunteers, and employees do on behalf of the poor around the country.
Around the State of Georgia, Corps Community Centers and Service Centers have coordinated a variety of programs and events designed to heighten awareness of services provided to the community and educate those less familiar with our purpose and mission about ways in which the Army is "Doing The Most Good" for those most in need.
The Georgia Divisional Headquarters of The Salvation Army is thankful for and enthusiastically accepts a proclamation given by Governor Sonny Perdue declaring this week "Salvation Army Week" for the State of Georgia and which encourages all Georgians to participate in the many outreach programs that improve the lives of people who seek our assistance.
